The Swiss Federal Institute for Vocational Education and Training (SFIVET) conducts research on pedagogy and didactics in the VET/PET field. In this way, SFIVET contributes to ensuring the high quality of upper-secondary level VET programmes and tertiary-level PET programmes in Switzerland for all young people and adults, regardless of the learning location.
The main questions examined in this research theme:
- What teaching and learning conditions can be found in upper-secondary level VET programmes at each of the three learning locations: vocational school, host company, industry/third-party training centre?
- What didactic principles and instruments create an optimal teaching-learning combination?
- What influence do didactic tools, structural and organisational conditions, competences of teaching staff, etc. have on upper-secondary level VET programmes?
- What factors lead to quality of teaching and learning in upper-secondary level VET programmes?
- How can young people with difficulties best be integrated in the teaching and learning process?
SFIVET's R&D Division provides the following services:
- Advice to vocational schools, associations and cantons on measures that can help integrate students.
- Provision of continuing training courses to improve teaching and training skills and foster both intercultural and gender awareness in VET programmes.
- Advice to vocational schools and associations on how to introduce and implement e-learning.
- Provision of assessments of VET programmes and training courses.
