Project description

This field study seeks to identify the characteristics of initial information and counselling sessions for the validation of prior learning (VPL), by focussing on the signification (or semiotic) process which underpins the work of VPL advisers and candidates. Conducted at Swiss VPL centre, the study pursues the following general objectives: i) to grasp knowledge of the nature and main challenges of this fundamental stage in the validation procedures; ii) to understand the changes and adjustments made to the activities of VPL advisers and candidates and their interactions; iii) to identify the specific needs of candidates at this stage and which appropriate answer advisers put in place to meet these needs in a relevant manner, iv) to document the design of training environments for VPL advisers.

Method

Empirical research – semiology of action
