Internal assessment of SFIVET's continuing training courses

Status
Internal assessment of SFIVET's continuing training courses is currently in the pilot phase. The various sub-projects in this pilot phase (PEX, certificate courses, continuing training courses) will be completed by the end of 2010.

Partner institutions
This is an internal SFIVET project. Our internal partners come from various organisational units within SFIVET's Continuing Training Division in all three linguistic regions.

Project description
SFIVET's Internal Assessment Unit has an explicit mandate to help SFIVET's Continuing Training Division at all three regional campuses in their efforts to provide adequate and sufficiently high-quality continuing training courses.

The following objectives are pursued:
  • Generate data-supported knowledge that may be used by the persons responsible for ensuring the quality of SFIVET's continuing training courses;
  • Gather feedback from course participants on quality-related aspects;
  • Convey course participant feedback on quality-related aspects (e.g. strengths and weaknesses) to the persons responsible for managing or teaching continuing training modules and courses;
  • Assess data and keep a record of feedback and suggestions for the purpose of developing and improving continuing training courses;
  • Generate data-supported knowledge that may be used to manage the quality of continuing training courses.

Method
During the first pilot phase (2009-2010) systematic, regular, data-based and user-oriented teaching assessment procedures were tested for individual modules and courses.

The content and theoretical background of these procedures are currently being reviewed and adapted.

Furthermore, an experimental design is being used to determine whether online surveys can provide the same degree of scientific reliability as conventional paper and pencil questionnaires. The aim is also to decide whether this option is practical and sensible from an organisational standpoint.
