SFIVET research paper to be published in renowned technical journal

2/17/2011

The leading technical journal “Economics of Education Review” will soon publish a research paper on a joint study conducted by education economists at SFIVET, the University of Bern and the University of Amsterdam.

The study “Do Students Expect Compensation for Wage Risk?” seeks to determine whether students expect to receive compensation for wage risk associated with various education pathways. Authors Dr. Jürg Schweri, Prof. Dr. Joop Hartog and Prof. Dr. Stefan C. Wolter have demonstrated that students expect a risk premium to be factored into their wages just like an investor expects a higher return on investment as compensation for exposure to higher levels of risk. Wage differences between individuals holding different types of qualifications are partly justified by the different levels of wage risk, i.e. the likelihood that the individual will earn a significantly higher or lower than average wage.

The research paper on the study “Do Students Expect Compensation for Wage Risk?” can be found here.
