Cost-benefit study shows: Host companies derive benefits from Swiss two-year VET programmes
6/21/2010
Commissioned by the Federal Office for Professional Education and Technology (OPET), the Swiss Federal Institute for Vocational Education and Training (SFIVET) conducted its first cost-benefit study on Swiss two-year VET programmes from the host company standpoint.
This study was conducted on the first eleven two-year VET programmes introduced since 2005. A total of 409 host companies returned an online questionnaire. The study results show that the benefits slightly outweigh the costs on average. Significant differences can nevertheless be found between various occupations. The recently published and downloadable
final report provides details explaining why these differences exist. The final report also compares the results of the cost-benefit study of Swiss two-year VET programmes with those obtained by the University of Bern in their cost-benefit study of Swiss three-year and four-year VET programmes.
