You are interested in SFIVET's basic and continuing training options but lack formal education and training. You would like to catch up. You are interested in validating your prior learning in order to better position yourself on the labour market.
In addition to formal education and training within the VET/PET sector, the Federal Vocational and Professional Education and Training Act (SR 412.10) provides for qualification procedures to validate prior learning (i.e. formal learning, non-formal learning and informal learning). Individuals who have gained competencies outside formal education and training channels (e.g. no diploma but long years of professional or private experience, training obtained abroad that is not recognised in Switzerland, etc.) now have the possibility of obtaining a federally recognised qualification.
The French-speaking region of Switzerland has a long tradition of validating prior learning. These practices are now spreading to the other linguistic regions of Switzerland.
The Swiss Federal Institute for Vocational Education and Training (SFIVET) is working extensively with the Federal Office for Professional Education and Technology (OPET), the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO) and professional organisations to develop qualification procedures to validate prior learning.
