The Swiss Federal Institute for Vocational Education and Training (SFIVET) promotes gender equality.
As a VET/PET institution, SFIVET's activities are subject to the provisions of the Federal Vocational and Professional Education and Training Act (VPETA, SR 412.10).
SFIVET considers gender equality to be a cross-sectional obligation that must be woven into its structure and activities.
In 2007/2008, within the framework of its project to promote quality, SFIVET developed research-based measures to transfer and sustainably implement gender equality in VET/PET programmes.
SFIVET provides basic and continuing training courses to ensure that vocational teachers and VET/PET professionals are able to acquire theoretical and practical know-how in gender issues. The aim is to comply with VPETA obligations by ensuring that all SFIVET graduates adopt equal opportunity and gender-sensitive approaches in the classroom.
At the same time, SFIVET lays the foundation for vocational institutions to systematically incorporate gender policy measures in their structures and procedures.
In this regard, SFIVET places particular importance on co-operating and exchanging information with vocational schools and other vocational institutions as well as on establishing networks for gender and equality know-how.
