Research and development: promoting leading edge innovations

The R&D Divsion's projects and services are part of SFIVET's overall mission. Experiences and results from both fundamental research  (research projects) and applied research (development projects) provide up-do-date theoretical and practical insight that is fed into SFIVET's basic and continuing training courses, which in turn influence daily VET/PET practices.

You will find scholars from several different disciplines among SFIVET's research and development staff. The various research projects and development projects cover the full spectrum of VET/PET activities. The ultimate goal is to ensure and further promote high quality standards within Switzerland's VET/PET system and to gain international recognition of the excellence of this system.

SFIVET's research and development activities focus on four main research themes:

  • Pedagogy and didactics
  • VET/PET curricula
  • VET systems
  • Economics of VET/PET

SFIVET's R&D Division places greater emphasis on applied research (development projects) in the VET/PET field rather than on fundamental research (research projects). It also works closely with universities and other research institutions in Switzerland and abroad. The R&D Division is responsible for assessing and monitoring the quality of SFIVET's basic and continuing training courses. It also provides consulting and development services.

SFIVET's development projects are designed to meet the needs of the three main partners within the VET/PET system (Confederation, Cantons, professional organisations). These projects should further contribute to the efficient governance of Switzerland's VET/PET system and enable innovative ideas to be initiated and promoted within the framework of the Federal Vocational and Professional Education and Training Act (SR 412.10).
